Summary Writers for the Westminster Seminar on Parliamentary Practice and Procedure 

CPA UK is offering an opportunity for university students with an interest in International Development, International Relations, or other associated fields, to act as summary writers during the Westminster Seminar in London at the Houses of Parliament on 13 – 17 November 2017.

Critical to the success of our projects, summary writers create detailed summaries of key discussions and issues raised throughout our conferences. These summaries feed directly into our end-of-project reports, which allow us to record what was discussed, evaluate the success and impact of a parliamentary capacity building programmes and better inform our planning for future work.

Selection Criteria & Application Process

  • In order to be eligible to act as a summary writers you are required to:
  • Have a proven interest in politics, international development, public policy and/or public financial management;
  • Have an excellent academic record;
  • Have excellent written and spoken English;
  • Be able and willing to engage fully with the conference material;
  • Have access to a laptop;
  • Previous communications and event experience would be desirable.

Selected persons will be required to work on at least two full days of the Seminar. Applicants are required to indicate their availability on the application form below.

Applicants must have the right to work in the UK and evidence will be required before starting work. For EEA nationals a copy of passport or ID card is sufficient evidence. Other nationalities will need to provide evidence of the right to work in the UK.

As a summary writer at one of our conferences, you will be paid the London Living Wage (£9.40) per hour for the number of hours worked during the conference/workshop sessions. As part of their role, summary writers have a week after the event in which to collate their notes and create a final version of their summaries. Summary writers will not be paid for this time after the Seminar. During the Westminster Seminar, lunches will be provided; however, travel costs will not be reimbursed.

On days where they are not working, all summary writers will be invited to attend the workshop free of charge in the capacity of an observer.
