Australia – Study Visit from the Commonwealth Parliament of Australia
Published 14 June 2018
The President of the Australian Senate, Senator the Hon. Scott Ryan, led a cross-party delegation to the UK from 4-7 June 2018. Their programme touched on a range of themes relevant to the UK-Australia relationship including the future trade relationship, global LGBT issues, youth violence, healthcare policy, fake news and media regulation, and intelligence and security.
The delegation was able to discuss these issues with the Chairs of the International Trade Committee, Intelligence and Security Committee, and the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee to hear the UK position but also share the Australian experience with UK parliamentarians. These discussion provided the delegation an insight into the UK’s current position on international trade as it leaves the European Union and how UK police and policy makers are responding to youth violent crime. In addition, the delegation met with Ministers at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Department for International Trade, and CPA UK Join-Presidents the Speaker of the House of Commons and Lord Speaker.
